Common Q&As for event wristbands

When planning a large-scale event, there are many factors to be considered. The venue, catering, ablution facilities, entertainment and security are all top of the list, but there’s one vital element that no event organiser can do without – access control. This is where event wristbands come into play! Here are some of the frequently asked questions about event wristbands.

What is the purpose of an event wristband?

Event wristbands are placed on the wrist of event attendees for access control, to monitor attendee numbers, and to ensure no unauthorised individuals can enter the premises. They can also be used to allow entrance to designated areas, depending on the event wristband colour and type. Many event wristbands are constructed with a non-transferable clasp, so that once the wristband is affixed to the wrist, it cannot be removed and given to another individual. Event wristbands are available in a range of materials, suited to different event types and budget.

Can you print on wristbands?

Yes. Working with an event wristband supplier, you can outline what text and imagery you would like to be printed on the wristband, making it unique to your particular event. You are able to choose the colour scheme you like, with different colours often used to designate areas within an event, such as VIP, bar, etc. If needed, you can also use a permanent marker to write directly on the wristband itself.

What are Tyvek wristbands?

Tyvek wristbands – also referred to as paper wristbands – are probably the most popular event access wristbands. This is because they are durable, non-transferrable, and cost-effective. Tyvek is made from woven, high-density polyethylene. This is a tough material that looks and feels like paper, but has the qualities of plastic.

Is Tyvek environmentally friendly?

Yes. Tyvek is an pure, environmentally-friendly material with no post-processing water-resistant coating.

What are the rubber wristbands called?

These are promotional or silicone wristbands that are used to show support for charities, beliefs or even as a fashion statement. Promotional wristbands include the traditional silicone wristband and the USB silicone wristband. There are also vinyl wristbands which are non-transferrable event wristbands that come in a variety of forms – slapperband wristbands, impact wristbands and lenticular wristbands, tradbands, koolbands, glitterbands and eezyriders.

Are wristbands waterproof?

Yes. Tyvek, vinyl and silicone wristbands are all waterproof, although Tyvek will eventually wear over time. For a more hard-wearing option, vinyl is the best choice. Fabric wristbands, while not waterproof, will retain the print and colour, even if they do get wet.

Are wristbands secure?

Yes. Tyvek and vinyl wristbands cannot be removed or tampered with once the tab is closed. Fabric wristbands are also secured into place. Promotional wristbands do not, however, have a clasp, and can be removed and put back on at any time.
