The Different Types of Wristbands

In our article What are Access Control Wristbands we discussed the importance and uses of access control products. We also briefly mentioned the different types of wristbands available. In this article we will dig deeper into the different types and functionalities of this product available on the market.

1. Full colour Plastic or PVC Wristbands – come in wide or L-shaped (straight) designs . These are excellent for longer events due to their tamper proof clasp and durability. The vinyl wristband itself is a long plastic strip with holes in one end and a clasp on the other end. At an event the access controller would wrap the band around a ticket holders wrist and secure the clasp in one of the suitable holes. This clasp cannot be opened and the band needs to be cut off completely in order to get it off. They are available in just about any colour and many companies opt to print their logo or brand on the product. Although this option is slightly more expensive, it is the more advisable choice due to its hardy and tamper proof nature.

2. Tyvek Wristbands – are made from a material similar to a doctors scrubs used in hospitals. This material is incredibly durable and the Tyvek wristbands are a popular choice for 1-3 day events. They are both cost effective and non-transferable and in most cases have a very quick turnaround time to produce.  Tyvek wristbands come in all colours and just about any design and most companies are able to add a specific design and logo to the wristband in a very short space of time. They are applied using an adhesive around a persons wrist which permanently sticks the two ends of the band together.

3. Silicone Wristbands –  are at the high end of the market as they are quite expensive to manufacture and are made from genuine silicone. Silicone wristbands are the most durable of all and have also been made into fashion items and promotional gifts due to their aesthetic appeal.

4. Fabric Wristbands – are the “platinum” version of access control products. They are both tear and water resistant, can be serialised and are fully recyclable. Fabric wristbands can be made with either a full colour dye print or a woven print and they can lock either with a Barrel lock or an aluminium ring.
